Are you depressed or just off balance? Often times people believe that they have a serious issue with depression when really they are just extremely off center in their lives. Especially during the holiday months of November and December, the issue of depression amongst people becomes extremely high. Depression can leave people feeling lost or empty. But is that empty or lost feeling actually depression ? Most often it is not. When a person is feeling lost or empty it can be because they are not living up to their full life potential , are disconnected from their true self, and instead have many things going on in life that leave them feeling unfulfilled.
So what can make you feel unfulfilled or off balance? Well, there are several things that can leave a person feeling off centered and disconnected from themselves. One major thing, is the person does not have any hobbies or interests outside of their job. A person must learn to do things that make them feel happy and peaceful in their free time. So what does that mean? That means that we as adults have to give ourselves time to play and time to be creative. Being social and going out with friends and family does not count. We must learn to do things that bring us pure joy on a deeper level and allow us to connect with ourselves. (ex, writing, music, art)
Another major item, that leaves someone of balance is that they take no time for themselves and give all of their time to others. A person must take time to nurture and care for themselves as they do for their partner or their children. Self-care requires loving and caring for yourself emotionally, physically , and spiritually without neglecting any aspects.
Third item that may be missing and causing someone to be off balance is that they are working at a job that is not allowing them to use their natural skills and abilities, and instead are working a career, that leaves the person feeling bored or unfulfilled. A person must have passion for what they do each day, or they will be left feeling empty.
Another major item, that leaves people off balance is that they are not connected to people, and their relationships are not heart felt or genuine. When a person does not having meaningful relationships with their partner, friends, or family , then they will always be left with an emptiness. A person must open their heart with vulnerability and openly connect with others to feel fullfulled in their interactions
And lastly, a person can feel empty or lost because the person is not accepting of self and does not have a loving connection with himself. When a person is lacking in self-love they often feel empty, and try searching for love in others which always leaves them fullfilled.
So as depression may start to creep in around the holidays, ask yourself are balanced and complete or are there pieces missing? If so, begin to work on filling in those missing pieces so that you may feel whole again.
