If you run a business or are working towards starting a business , one of the first things that you try to master is the art of productivity. You often hear people bragging about how any meetings, phone calls, and emails that they got to in one day. Or you may also hear how the entrepreneur only got 4 hours of sleep, and has been awake since 4am so that they could manage to get everything on their list accomplished. But, is this the art of productivity or the art of being busy?
Being busy and accomplishing a long list of items everyday is not always productive. While being an entrepreneur or managing a business, taking a break is often looked down upon or just thought of as impossible. But, the truth is that taking a break or resting throughout your day will actually make you more productive and more clear minded. Having a clear, well-rested mind has proved to bring out higher cognitive functioning. When your mind is at a constant, patient, unhurried focus, your brain can quiet down, and other cognitive abilities can be turned on. Being calm, and present daily with rest will allow you to think and live at your highest potential.
Use your time with a purpose. Make each moment of your time be a choice to make your life, your purpose, and your business better. Respond to items by order of happiness involved, not productiveness. If you are going to create a happy, successful life and company, you must do so by making time to rest, to think, and time to engage. Without rest or time to think, your best will never be possible. Being busy will kill your creativity and your thinking, from reaching its highest level of potential. So, rather than working towards accomplishing productivity, instead master the art of mindful living.
