If good things come to those who wait, why do we have so much trouble waiting for anything? We are in the era of never waiting. We don't wait for our coffee, we order it on our phone and pick it up. We don't wait to get married, we have a timeline to fill. And we don't wait for our dreams to come true, because dreams are impractical. But, is that the way to receive the things that really matter?
Although, we live in a time when everything is at our fingertips, that does not mean that we still don't have to wait for things that really matter. Good things do come to those who wait. Those that persevere through the uncomfortable times, to get the successful business they dreamed of, or the family that they always wanted, did it all by waiting out gratification. Things that truly matter, such as being a happy and healthy human being can take time. To live out your passion in life and turn it into a career, that takes time. The reason many people do not get these things, is not because it is impractical but because they didn't want to wait. To wait out gratification is to wade through times when you feel completely uncomfortable. Delaying gratification consists of willpower and delaying temporary indulgence. Most people want to feel comfortable and satisfied immediately. In order to get to the things that will fulfill your life on a deeper level, a person must learn willpower and perseverance. Willpower is working through things that are a slight temporary misery to get to things that will have a larger pay off in the end. The larger payoff is what will bring your life real value. Temporary misery brings strength and self control, which so many people in our culture lack. Most of society has little to no self control, and is rewarded for doing so. Because of are lack of self control, there are millions of unhappy people. And the few that genuinely love their partner and live out their passion in life were able to do so because they mastered the art of waiting. So, how can we master the art of waiting? It's simple. Wait for the things that you truly value, and be uncomfortable until they get here. Learn self control, always choose to be better each day, relieve your stress by having fun, and do not reach for the instant reward. Release the feeling of needing an instant reward. Allow yourself to feel peaceful and happy when things are less than ideal. Be content in your current life, until the things you truly want arrive. Work towards your passions until they become a reality, be the best person that you can be until the right partner comes along, and eat right so you can feel good being healthy. Learn to think on a larger level, think of the big picture, and not the small picture that says I need it all now. Hold a vision off what you want and work until those things arrive. Choose better, be better, and let the good things come because you learned to wait.
