Something can happen in our day that upsets us, and then your entire day is ruined because of this one minor event. For example, you leave to go to work and need to stop to get gas on the way to the office. When you pull up to the gas pump, you get out of the car; go to grab your wallet from your purse and realize it is not with you, because you left it at home. Because you left your wallet at home and your gas tank is on empty, you have to go back home to get your wallet and that will make you late for work. When you get to work late, you are then in a bad mood all day because you missed your morning meeting and now your schedule is off track. When things such as this happen, we have to learn to control the outcome after the negative event. One negative thought can go a long way and ruin the day, the week or even an entire year. Our minds allow us to control our thoughts. We have the power to shut off negative thoughts when they come to us. We cannot control everything in our environment, but we can control how we react to it. Therefore, when a negative event takes place, rather than simmer on the negative energy, stop think about it for a few minutes, and then release it. Allow yourself to let the negative energy flow through you and then focus on relaxing, and releasing it immediately. Releasing negativity as it comes, will allow you to have a peaceful mind state everyday rather than dwelling on the past misfortunes.
