Many people, including myself have doubted the gut feeling I have gotten about something. The gut feeling is what is known as our intuition. Our intuition often comes to us as a thought or a vision. The vision will come to us through a thought or a sign. The gut feeling we receive about something whether it is positive or negative, is given to us to guide us along. Often we don't hear our intuition talking to us because of outside noise and distractions. We also may ignore our gut because of fear. Also, other people's opinions can allow us to doubt our intuition. Because of these things, we can then go down the wrong path. If you have trouble hearing your gut or trusting it, maybe try to do a simple practice of taking time to silently think to yourself and see what thoughts come up when nothing is blocking them. Take 20 minutes to meditate, or walk or run and let your thoughts wander during this time. When you allow your mind to be free from distraction, you let your intuition point you in the right direction.
